Applying Touch-Up Paint

There are a few factors that affect the type of technique to use with touch-up paint. You may need more coverage, and if you have deeper scratches such as key marks, then you could be dealing with rust prevention as well. There are some paint kits that come with a brush, but if you notice that it’s nylon bristles, then you could have more issues with scratches. You always want to use a horsehair brush, even for the smallest of paint chips.

Automotive touch-up paint is also different than house paint or acrylics. It is designed to be dabbed rather than painted on with strokes. You will find that it’s better to take it slow when you are applying touch-up paint. You may also need to buff and apply primer before adding touch-up paint if the scratch is particularly deep.
